Important notice about the legal standing, scope, and use cases of the documentation provided by DIA.

01

Non-Governmental Entity

Driving International Association (DIA) is a private membership-based association and is not affiliated with, or a part of, any Government agency, national transport authority, or government ministry in any country. DIA provides professional certified translation and facilitation services for international travelers worldwide.

DIA is not a government body. Our IDP is a certified translation document — not a government-issued license. Please do not confuse DIA services with government-issued documents.

02

Purpose of Document

The International Driving Permit (IDP) issued by Driving International Association is a Certified Translation of your domestic driving license, formatted as per the 1949 Geneva Convention and 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. It is intended to bridge the language gap for foreign authorities and car rental agencies.

  • Translates your license details into multiple internationally recognized languages
  • Accepted by traffic authorities and car rental companies in 150+ countries
  • Serves as companion documentation alongside your original national driving license
  • Formatted per Geneva Convention 1949 and Vienna Convention 1968 standards
03

Original License Requirement

The IDP issued by Driving International Association is NOT a replacement for your original driving license. It is only valid when carried along with a valid, original physical Domestic Driving License issued by your home country.

Driving with an IDP alone — without your original national driving license — is not legally valid in any country. Both documents must be carried together at all times while driving abroad.

04

Acceptance Policy

While documents issued by Driving International Association follow international standards (Article 24 of the 1949 Convention), the final acceptance of the translation rests solely with local foreign law enforcement and private car rental companies.

DIA makes every effort to ensure our IDP meets globally accepted standards. We maintain acceptance in 150+ countries and provide full support in the event of any acceptance issues.

DIA does not take responsibility for any denial of service by third-party entities or local authorities abroad. Individual country laws and regulations may vary. Always verify the specific requirements of your destination country before travel.

05

No Liability

Driving International Association shall not be held liable for any legal issues, traffic violations, accidents, or penalties incurred by the member while driving in a foreign country. Members are advised to strictly follow all local traffic laws of the country they are visiting.

  • DIA is not liable for traffic violations or fines issued by foreign authorities
  • DIA is not responsible for accidents or damage caused while driving abroad
  • DIA does not guarantee acceptance by every individual rental company or officer
  • DIA is not responsible for changes in local laws that may affect IDP acceptance

Always carry both your original driving license and IDP. Observe all local traffic laws. Driving International Association provides the document — responsibility for lawful driving rests with the member.

06

Governing Law

These Terms and all services provided by Driving International Association are governed by applicable international standards, including the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic and the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. Where formal resolution is required, disputes shall be subject to arbitration or the jurisdiction mutually agreed upon by both parties.
